February Results

What a hole I dug myself into! Down about $450 by the twelveth, I dug my way back out....barely! $13 profit for the hole month....whippee. I went on a heck of a run. I cashed in 11 0f the last 19 live games, with only 3 losing sessions over a 13 night span, but felt really empty when the final tally came up to such a menial amount. I guess I learned a little about playing outside of my comfort zone. I was on tilt for awhile and didn't feel like I even knew how to read the board...eerie. What's even scarier was that my total expenditures for buy ins had grown over 400% since December. Not having a couple of thousand in disposable income to flush away over a two-week-head-up-my-ass tilt session, I decided to make better game selections for March and stay away from the rebuy madness. I also decided to commit to 3 hours a week of studying the game and reading various poker related material. So far, so good.

A couple of my poker friends have been in a funk, and despite my sympathy for them, I think it helped me to see someone else go through it. Hopefully it will help me pick up on my own emotional state of mind and assist me in avoiding or halting the tilted I-can-buy-the-pot-if-I-just-force-it sickness.

Tentative plans being made to make it out to Las Vegas this summer for the WSOP. Any blog readers (seriously are there any?) interested in drinking a beer with me, email me and I'll plan to sip a sud with ya, if you make it.

Here's one crazy hand that put me out of the money in a winner-take-all local game. It got down to heads up against crazy lady with limited skills. She raises from the small blind and I just call with As 6d.
Flop is Ah 5s 7s. I check, she bets, I call thinking she doesn't have the Ace and I'm reeling her in.
Turn is 4s. This gives me thousands of outs....literally, I have an open ended straight draw, flush draw, top pair on the board, I figure any 3, 8, Ace, 6, or spade will make me a winner when crazy pushes all in, so I call........... and lose....to her two pair (fours and fives). Not knowing how I could have gotten away from the hand I went to the house and plugged the numbers into Pokerstove. I was amazed at the results. Here they are:

I wish I had something more meaningful to post, but my son started playing little league baseball and basketball just ended. He's becoming quite the agressive little monster. It makes a daddy awful proud to see his offspring succeed....sort of put's the fast, hard path to poker stardom on the back burner.

Have a good month, see you at the tables.
